Swiss hardcore trio Cortez is back with the album 'Phoebus'
Phoebus, the new album of Cortez, confirms the come back of the Swiss trio, just after the release of their 10'' split with Plebeian Grandstand, on the labels Throatruiner Records, Basement Apes Industries and Get A Life ! Records. The artwork accompanying this new album has been entrusted to Dehn Sora, bringing a subtle spark to this dark masterpiece.

With this album Cortez is again proving that you can get out of the habitual pattern of power trio (guitar, drums and voice), and still burps noise-hardcore fury and incandescent anger. The band recently reorganized itself with the arrival of Antoine Tinguely on the guitar (ex-Berserk For Tea Time), Samuel Vaney, former guitarist, is now supporting the band as composer and mixer.
Recorded partly in the REC Studio of Serge Morattel in Geneva, drums, and partly in their own rehearsal space, guitars and vocals, this new album is the result of hard work, giving the band big freedom in creation and the possibility to fully assume the production process. Complete independence in learning, creating and finalizing the record.
«Phoebus» reaffirms the taste of Cortez for saturation, but also explores a wide range of possibilities. Like a threatening and corrosive mist the aggressive sound still remains intense, melancholic and emotional.
As a reminder, Cortez, formed in 2001, was revealed in 2005 and the horrific world of their first album «Initial», was praised by unanimous reviews. After the release followed several tours in Europe, during which the group forged a reputation of exceptional performers. Sharing the stage with THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, ISIS, UNSANE, JESU, GOJIRA, BURST, THE OCEAN ... each occurrence tended to confirm and affirm their originality and mastering of their subject.

The band was encouraged by the director to compose joyful, prosporous music, in order to express the desire of life coming from the youngsters but also to compose melancholic and alienated tunes, able to express the lost childhood and the difficulties of growing up and fitting in. The final result is a musical journey of stories and emotions ready to be told even to those listeners who won’t have the chance to watch the film.
Who are KOVLO
The instrumental sound of the KOVLO (Mario Bisignani guitar, Stefano Chiassai guitar, Alessio Galupi drums, Giona Mattei bass) moves between quite, intimate and mysterious soundscapes, and hypnotic, furious and violent noise explosions, in the best tradition of bands like Mogwai, GSYBE!, Shellac, Isis, Explosion in the sky, Sigur Ros.
With the release of their first three records, “A new position for the second degree burnt” (2005), “I’m so happy on this boat” (2008) and “Hey Mom, where’s Timbuktu?” (2011), KOVLO became one of the most interesting and important Swiss post-rock and instrumental rock bands. Today they are worldwide known and critically acclaimed.
As it happens with most post-rock bands, the live experience is essential to discover and enjoy the music of KOVLO. During their live shows, the band is able to express at the best the tension and power of their sound, with its psychedelic and hypnotic soundscapes. During their European tours they played so far in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Czech Republic.

more about Abraham
Born in 1866 BC, Abraham lived a peaceful life near Sodom, marrying his half-sister and giving birth to all decent humankind when already aged far over 100 years. Those golden days have gone, but the virile power of his beard survived and spurted back in 2007 as a rock band. This happened in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since then, Abraham plaited songs with these ancestral hairs, songs weaved with violence and despair.
Abraham created a barren aural landscape where grand rock faces of guitars loom large over occasional restrained moments of calm sublimity and haunting beauty. Abrasiveness is the word here: Abraham will wash over you like a sudden cloudburst in the desert and make you feel like jagged rock exposed to the elements.
Committed, intense and aggressive songwriting eventually led them to record their first full-length, An Eye on the Universe. The many times appraised album somehow made its way into the ears of Robin Staps (The Ocean) who released the record on his label Pelagic Records in early 2011.
Get A Life Records is back
Founded in 2005, Get A Life! Records has been immediately implicated into the development of helvetic leading bands of the Indie and Metal scene like Cortez, Ventura, Disco Doom, Evpatoria Report, Zatokrev, Vancouver, etc...
A European network was quickly created for the record distribution with companies like IODA (digital), Irascible (Switzerland)and Season of Mist (CD-France), Code7 (UK + export world). It permitted the Swiss roster to shine around the world, and specially in France, where the label had and has a strong recognition.
Joël Allmendiger founded the label in order to promote and push forward the helvetic scene. He was director from 2005 to 2009, before transmitting the keys in 2010 to Grégoire Quartier, the actual one, who developed activities of European booking through Antihero Booking and Swiss promotion through Super Ficelle Promotion.
In the Future, the line of the label will still be turned to rock and alternative music, but will also open up to new sonorities. The attention will be focused on artists of all origin who will make their music a choice of life, and who will push in front the uniqueness of their artistic approach. Without focusing on a particular genre, Get A Life! Records wants to be a label who pushes forward exigency, originality and singularity.
The artist is the center of all attention. The label is counting on a true personality, and a true artistic independence and will support in all possible ways the original conception that the artist wants to develop. This is asking the artist to have the responsibility of his own "carrier" and/or "image". The artistic credibility is the priority, and commercial musts are secondary, beside the fact that we keep a careful eye on the balance of investment/incomes.
